Reflective Narrative:
To fulfill this MLO I took SPAN 305 Spanish for the Professions. This course allowed me to use and learn appropriate Spanish terminology in the professional fields.Speaking Spanish as a first language has complicated my learning, since growing up I learned the folklore Spanish spoken in my town of birth. Therefore the use of professional words were limited in my vocabulary. This class has given me the opportunity to increase my vocabulary, although the words of business are not unknown to me, but I find it difficult to apply them in the real world. When we are exposed to two languages is very easy to fall in a world of " false cognates" , confusing words that sound the same but the meaning is totally different. In this class I was able to distinguish between this false cognates by translating advertising flyers, writing a job proposals, making a resume and a making a job application. We learned the appropriate grammar components through class and homework assignments, quizzes and regular examination from my professor. I really enjoy this course because I know what I have learn will be useful for my future goals, and jobs opportunities in this area.
