Overall integrative Narrative
When I arrived to the United States, like many Latin American children, I did not have a goal, rather than making friends and playing soccer. I was constantly trying to integrate into a new culture that was not mine. I sometimes cried in frustration for not understanding what my teachers and my classmates were saying to me. I wanted to learn English, but it was so difficult, I thought I just couldn't learn it. My middle school teachers told me that I was ready to make the transition from ESL classes to only English classes, but I just did not feel prepared. Even when I decided to take English classes, I struggled to understand my teachers, the readings, etc. In high school, I took a Spanish class for Spanish speakers. In that class I felt at home, because it was as if Spanish felt like a part of me. I notice that most of my friends began assimilating into the American culture. Because of that, I sometimes felt as if Spanish was going to be forgotten. Once I entered college, I decided to major in Spanish because I wanted to "save" Spanish from being lost.
My purpose has changed entirely, referring to the study of Spanish, which involves more than simply learning the language itself. I've noticed that Spanish is only one transport of communication. Over the years, I realized that Spanish literature is what I love the most. Thru it, I was able to find paths I would never expect to go to. Now because of it, I can give importance to what one would think is not meaningful and I can make things credible when they are not believable. Overall, make all fiction be part of reality. "Literature is a ticket to freely fly around the world". And yet, it holds many mysteries that only the reader can discover. When literature gives one imagination, it is where life begins. Through it, I have learned the basics of life to be the most difficult. Literature has given me the invitation to delve into history in order to understand the concepts that an author might be exposing in his work.
I learned a lot more than I thought in taking these classes. For example: I learned not to judge a book by its cover, because the mysteries inside could be very pleasurable. I had the pleasure of having excellent teachers. I felt a great satisfaction in being able to fall in love with literature. Thru literature, I have learned about unknown concepts hidden in the variety of topics in a novel. I managed to make very good friends, that to some extent, share the same love for literature as I do. It gives me joy to know that what I have learned is the beginning of an endless journey and the passage to continue my studies at a higher level, like obtaining a Master’s degree.
In the not too distant future, I want to continue my studies in Spanish. I want to concentrate on the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. My goal is to achieve a master’s degree in Spanish and eventually pursue a doctorate in the same field of study. My dream is to be a university professor. I know that with dedication and love for what I do and the unconditional support from my family, I will accomplish my dreams.
