I took this curse in Fall 2014 with Professor Rafael Gomez. I was able to relate concepts presented in my Spanish Literature class to this class since both were related to Spain. In this course we started studying the geography of Spain, we turn to the prehistory, Rome and Romanization, the Middle Ages, the Reconquista (re-conquest), the modern age, the Habsburgs, the Golden Age, the cultural life of Spain, the century of the kings, the most impressive figures in contemporary pedagogy age, the Civil War etc. I thought it was fantastic that each time we covered an époque I was able to transport myself to this time in history. It is incredible how each ruler or king had different characteristics that identified them worldwide. Spain always fought to be different to other European countries but unfortunately, always had many enemies which led to the ruin; a ruin which today continues manifest in the Spanish nation. The great power they once demonstrated, give the Spanish the most exiting history in the world.
For this class we also had to keep a journal of what was covered during each section, which help us as student to memorized words that describe concepts presented during each period of time, since each period of time presented different terminology. We also took two tests for which we had to study a lot, since we covered several centuries at each time. In a future I want to continued my studies in Spanish literature and culture, so I can be able to focus more I depth in each time period of the Spanish history.
